In the end,
We conserve only that which we love,
We love only that which we understand,
and we understand only that which
We are taught.

It is a scary thought, the possibility that man's capacity for love is directly linked to his/her capacity to understand the world around them. We see evidence of how lack of understanding leads to hate everyday through hate crimes, discrimination and the war that is going on in the Middle East.
We are all taught love and hate when we are young. Some of us are taught more of one than the other. Often, though, it seems as if we do have an inborn knowledge of both extremes of emotion. You meet someone perfectly ordinary looking with no distinguishing traits and you love them, or at the very least, you like them. On the other hand, you can meet someone amazingly similar and feel an instant dislike, even hate. Why?
If we were all more capable of understanding others, and of accepting that which we do not understand, we might be living in a much more peaceful world.
Would it be a better world, though? I mean trully, would it be better. After all, to have peace, you must be willing to give up some of your freedom. To have freedom, you must be willing to fight to keep it.
